This is my favorite Costa Rican. I actually prefer this over the La Minita . There is more of a change to the flavor, body and acidity at the different roast levels. It does have a wonderful finish and the "zing" as stated in the desciption sure is present. When it cools it seems to be even better. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Costa rican coffee.
Costa Rica has produced some fine organics, and this is the best one we've had in the last 4 crop years; it is also my wife's favorite coffee, bar none.

Pretty good. That’s not meant to be damnation by faint praise — la Amistad is dependable and predictable, but not adventurous. How about this: If you were going to buy green beans as a gift for a roasting novice, la Amistad is a safe bet.

The coffee has a good flavor profile at just past past first crack. My biggest complaint is a high quality coffee at this price point shouldn’t have a lot of small, broken and mishaps beans. I had to hand sort and discard nearly 10% of the beans because the were not fully roasted. Poor sorting and some one doesn’t expect at $8.00 per lb. I doubt I would buy this again as the La Minita is much better for just a bit more $

Medium roast (halfway between 1st and 2nd crack, approx 12 minutes). Gene cafe. 2 week resting period. Brewed as americano. Aroma: German chocolate cake, bittersweet chocolate Taste: bitwersweet chocolate, caramel, wheat, black tea, grapefruit. Moderate acidity. Mouthfeel: applejuice

Roasted to a dark roast right at the beginning of the second crack. Smooth chocolatey tone with a light body mouth feel. No bitter aftertaste and very refreshing. Roasted both this and the El Conquistador and both are equally great cups of coffee.

New to roasting and I have had fun trying different roasts and also learning about how important the grind size is for getting the most flavor. This coffee has been very consistent and is my favorite right now, it is very forgiving for learning how to roast and grind. Makes a good cold brew as well.

I am a big fan of Costa Rican coffee. I roast this coffee medium dark, to use as an expresso. As with with previous reviews there are definite chocolate and bittersweet notes. This coffee holds up well to milk. Makes an excellent cappuccino.

The last time I reviewed this I gave it five stars, but this time the beans were poorly sorted, inconsistent, broken, and didn't roast well. I sorted the bad beans and threw them out. It's a great coffee when it's good but this time the quality was very poor.

Loved this coffee. It's very smooth with chocolate and caramel undertones. It's what I personally want in a coffee. Made a nice dark roast. 10/10 will do again. It's almost too smooth, so I can understand some of the critiques that it's not adventurous enough or complex enough, but I like a good rich and smooth chocolaty flavor without too much acidity.

I don't know much about roasting coffee, but in my very short experience with this being my first, I received many compliments on the chocolatey flavor. By far, better than Starbucks espresso roast! HAHA But in all seriousness, you would be crazy not to try it, and I couldn't have imagined picking a better option for my first time roasting.

Not great but drinkable. I have tried four roasts ranging from light medium to medium-dark and was unable to reveal any flavor. I have been spoiled by Kona beans and I measure all beans against the Kona bean, perhaps I am not being fair but I have tried different roasts without favorable results. I guess you get what you pay for, the price for the Costa Rica beans was only about $7.00 per pound and is reflected by its flavor.
