Description

raw green bean Green coffee is raw Roast prior to consumption

El Gato Supremo is grown through the Santander Department, which is widely known for its natural, shade-grown coffees. These beans are cultivated in rich forests where volcanic soils, idyllic microclimates, and average temperatures between 68 and 71 degrees Fahrenheit are ideal for growing specialty-grade arabica.

A proper 17/18 screen Colombia Supremo green coffee, this bean is handpicked, washed, and milled by the Northeastern Colombian Coffee Cooperative (Cooperativa Cafetera Del Nororiente Colombiano).

Cupping Notes: Good medium body with a silky, smooth mouth feel, mild acidity, notes of sweet orange, slight nutty almond and sweet vanilla finish.

Re: Mahesh's request for roasting assistance below. While not a roasting 'expert' by any means, I've seen and read enough to be dangerous. You probably answered your own question when you stated that your 3rd roast came out better when you slowed down the roast. Beans need time to develop their flavors, especially during the Maillard Phase, where sugars are being caramelized. Rushing through the roast will cause beans to be underdeveloped and bland. I roast with an SR 800 with an extension tube, but general roasting principals are still in play no matter the equipment. I typically hit 1st crack at about 6:30-7:00 into the roast, around 410-430° on the readout. Total roast time is 9-9 1/2 minutes, finish between 450-470°, trying to stop before reaching 2nd crack. I prefer a City+-Full City roast. The biggest thing is to not stall your roast, especially during 1st or 2nd crack. Consider purchasing an extension tube. It really expands your flexibility and consistency. Don't be afraid to tweak your heat or fan speed during the roast. Different beans respond differently based on density, drying process, etc. Unfortunately, there's not a 'one size fits all' roasting profile. For really informative videos on the Fresh Roast roasters, go to The Captain's Coffee website. They'll help you immensely. Hope this helps

I ordered 25 pounds of this and have been roasting it for a while. It makes pretty good coffee, I'm still figuring it out how I like it best. The two stars are for the description and misleading advertising: "A proper 17/18 screen Colombia Supremo green coffee" sets you up for very good expectations for the consistency of bean size. When I got my 25 pounds, I noticed that there were quite a lot of very tiny, oddly shaped beans. They would have turned to charcoal in each of my roasts. I contacted coffee bean corral customer service, and they pulled a sample. The business operations manager stated that she could clearly see that they were not uniform. Later after the pulled sample was examined, she clarified that what they meant by the "proper 17/18 screen" is actually just over 50% 17/18 screened, Roughly said that agricultural product is not perfect and plenty of misshapen coffee beans can make it through the screening. I'm still going to roast it and drink it, not at all thrilled at having to manually sort through every 8oz batch that I roast.

One of the best Columbian beans I have ever tasted, especially when roasted to an oily dark color--really brings out the smooth chocolate flavor.

Taste was good, but inconsistency with quality of beans was disappointing, finding broken beans and even a piece or two of rocks. The Tanzania Peabury however was excellent.

This is one delicious coffee. I tried 1lb to begin with - roasted to 410F. Light/medium roast. This is one of my new must haves now! Great espressos with that roast level - very flavorful.

I love almost every Colombian I've tried and this El Gato is as good as any ever have been! My Hive roaster brought out some nutty, almond notes and it has a very nice body and a pleasing aftertaste. This is a "special" bean in my book.

I've tried a lot of different beans from different regions on CBC and every Colombian coffee that CBC has to offer at light, medium, and dark roasts, except for the geisha and decaf beans, and these are by far the best Colombian beans, as well as my favorite beans that CBC has. These are THE beans that represent everything that Colombian coffee is and stands for. Great body, smooth, chocolatey, nutty, with a little bit of fruit. Medium to medium-dark is the way to roast these beans. These beans make the best coffee to start your morning with. Low and slow is the way to go about roasting these while aiming for first first crack around 8 minutes. Aim for medium to medium-dark and you won't be disappointed.

This El Gato coffee is awesome! We roast it to just 2nd crack, it’s smooth, chocolatey, the smell has the neighbors knocking on our door. Top notch service, shipping was fast and we always enjoy doing business with Coffee bean corral, what a reward there coffees are!

I've always been a fan of the Columbian Bucaramanga bean. I've been unable to find it the past few years. The low price made me feel a little wary, but this is the good stuff. A slow full city roast or maybe city+ (just into second crack) will bring out the extraordinary flavor of this bean. Blended with a little Louisiana smoked chicory during grinding, and you've a cup that makes all the time and effort and expense SO worth it. My wife, who doesn't like coffee, loves a cup on a cool morning with a dash of sugar and a dollop of milk. She calls it dark chocolate in a cup. I'm very glad I found CBC and this bean again.

Roasted this Medium and Medium Dark. Both are excellent but my preference with this slightly more fragile Colombian is Medium. I get wonderful flavors with medium body which makes you want to drink this coffee all day long to the last drop. It’s really good. Roasted in my SR800 with Razzo V5 extension tube for about 10.5 minutes going through the drying out process for coffee with the extension tube.

Very nice. In espresso/milk drinks a light roast gives taste of honey, medium roast gives a nice Carmel flavor and dark gives chocolate taste.

Truth is, in my 10+ years of roasting, I rarely buy Colombian coffee. I decided to snag a 5-pound bag of this when it was offered as one of "John's Favorites" in honor of CBC's owner's birthday. Since it happened to be my birthday, too, I bought it. Now...the rest of the truth. I love it! This is a flavorful coffee roasted to full city. Lots of texture, lots of body, and plenty to be thankful for in a daily coffee. I should have bought more on sale, because I'll definitely buy more.

I just mixed the Columbian (2/3) with your Ethiopian Yirgacheffe (1/3) and had one of those wow moments. Classic Columbian taste with a nutty kick. Yall have great beans. Thanks.

I'm fairly new to roasting, but I've done a couple of roasts, and this coffee has a supreme texture. If I had to describe this in one word: silk. Very smooth and velvety. That being said, it has a very mild flavor. I think this would be great for someone to use in a custom blend to add some smoothness to their coffee.

Medium Roast- Auto brewer-Light Body, light cocoa, spicy, slight sweetness, very bright, medium acidity, mild sourness in aftertaste. As espresso medium body, more spicy, acidic, greater sour finish. Nice to try & add to variety at home but will move on

When referring to Light or Dark it is (Light = 1 Cracks and Dark = 2 Crack) and we rated it from 1:10. The Light brew was with 8 Cups of Water and 50 Grams of Coffee and Flavor was sweet orange, slight nutty, vanilla with a rate of 12 and Strength of Coffee Strong . The Dark brew was with 8 Cups of Water and 46 Grams of Coffee and Flavor was weak Strawberry with a rate of 8.5 and Strength of Coffee Strong .

Roasted in iron skillet. A decent mug of coffee To my palate, it's a mild coffee, even if darker roasted when it's better - but then it loses the distinct and pleasant nuttiness I tasted on the lighter roast. I'm new to this level of coffee interest, so might change my score after a few more varieties!

I have roasted this as both a light roast and a dark roast ( a few seconds into second crack). I am very pleased with the quality and flavor. More importantly I am always impressed with the service and customer support from Coffee Bean Corral. I have not found any of the other beans I have purchased that I have not been pleased with. I roast in very small batches to last for just a few days at a time. I believe I will be a long time customer of this fine business. They are very helpful and respectful if you ever need to call them.

I have been roasting coffee beans in my homemade coffee bean roaster for only one summer. I have tried so many different beans that I had to started keeping a list with notes. This bean is top notch. It tastes the way a fine coffee should. I have tried it 4 different ways. Light, medium, medium dark and dark roasted. My wife's favorite is light and I like mine full city plus one minute at 390º. My favorite coffee before I starting roasting my own was called 'Death Wish" coffee. It's what I compare other coffees to and it is what got me interested in roasting. The El Gato Supremo is an excellent coffee and my favorite so far. Share it with friends and show them how to roast it. CBC is a great resource and I am loving my new found hobby.

I purchase 3lb bags . Roast in kaldi 7oz motorized drum roaster. Usually have 7-8 different roasts at all times. Coffee brewed in delonghi magnifica xs (lot of flexibility in brewing). I've only done one roast of this seed so far on 8-8. I'm drinking a cup now 8-18 and I believe this coffee gets a little better with longer rest time. All I want from a roast is🙂. Columbian has always had a little bolder taste which I like at times. I drink many 8oz cups through out the day because I love coffee. There is no coffee better then self roasted. Columbian is not my first choice raw seed. Ethiopian is plus it's the guarenteed crowd pleaser. Btw this bean after 10 day sit is showing a little oil on bean

Received in a Colombian sample pack for 22% off with CBCs awesome 2/2/22 sale. Just a good cup of coffee. CBCs description is spot-on. Slightly bolder than the Huila Supremo. Rich, really fills your mouth. Not as chocolatey as Huila, maybe a little sweeter and nuttier. You're ready to face the day after drinking this one.

I bought a sample size of this to see how it tastes. I roasted it on SR540 - first time, it came out so well - it tasted fine - not like Sumatra. I would rate this #2. Second time brewing, same bean, same roaster, same settings came out very under-roasted - no idea what happened (I am new to roasting - still same qty, settings can't have such a vast quality difference), 3rd time, I did the roast with much longer time and came out ok..If there are any roasting experts here, pl guide me. My settings are mostly 0-3.30 - F6P9; 3.30 - 5.00 - F6P8; 5-6.30 - F6P7; 6.30-7.30 - F6P6; 7.30 onwards cool down. I did hear two stages of cracks - first one at around 4 minute and second at around 6.30 mts.... This is certainly a good one but not my #1. Mahesh

Nice large coffee beans with great flavor. I like to roast the beans to a medium dark flavor. The beans have nice, medium body with a slightly creamy mouth feel, bold acidity, and notes of sweet orange, slight nutty almond and sweet vanilla on the finish. I love Colombian coffee.

This to me is the classic taste I am looking for. I've tried several types and while all are good, if someone told me I could only drink one type for the rest of my years this would be my pick. Roasted just into the second crack for about 10-15 seconds being careful not to burn. Beans were a nice even dark brown and at first I thought I should have gone further... but no.. it turned out to be a perfect brew. I'm ordering more today. Charles, This is my wife's favorite so we will always have it in stock! Thanks for your business! John

I am a "newbie" at coffee roasting and up until this one, I was wandering around "green coffee bean land" (pre-Coffee Bean Corral) fairly disappointed. This was the one that changed all that. This is a GREAT cup of coffee and will remain a staple for me while I do some more experimenting. Full bodied, chocolaty and slightly sweet.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Home Coffee Roasting...Coffee Bean Corral style. Now that you have a good "everyday coffee", the fun begins (experimenting with other coffees) whenever you feel the urge. Thanks,
Russ

For the price the quality is outstanding. It's not the highest quality of character, but being on the lower end of the price scale, this didn't just meet expectations, but exceeded them. Personal desired roast is a city+ but have gone darker and it held up nicely.

Roasted this two ways for a side-by-side tasting. Medium+ (late first crack) and Full City (well into 2nd crack). First crack happens at about 400 in a SR-540. Medium was a bit to acidic for my taste but some people may prefer this, but Full City is wonderful, bold, with a good "coffee" finish. Overall, a good bean to experiment with at different profiles. This is a keeper.

Awesome bean right here. I roasted this over open flame just after the first crack so fairly light and let me just say - make this as a Cuban and it’ll be the best Cuban you’ve ever had. It’s already a well balanced bean - not too bright, just heavy enough and a little sweet on the palette and extracting it with the brown sugar makes an amazing Cuban.

Roasted to full city was pretty unremarkable in flavor and body, would not buy it again. Probably at lighter roasts might show more character, but I do not like light roast. At darker roasts I suspect it would probably lose any character. As as note to other reviewers, this coffee is from Colombia, therefore it's Colombian coffee, not Columbian.
