If Caffeine is your goal then the Robusta coffee bean is for you! Robusta has a higher caffeine content from 30 to 50% more than arabica. The robusta tree has larger leaves, deep roots, and higher yields and It tends to be more disease-resistant. Because of its heat tolerance and ability to produce high yields, robusta coffee is often grown at high densities in full sun. As a dark roast, this coffee bean can be used as an espresso base. If you want a double caffeine boost then this bean is for you.

I roast and mix my espresso beans and I always like to add in 10-15% Robusta beans for the crema, the rounder flavor, and the caffeine boost. This is the first time I've tried the Guatemalan Robusta as opposed to either Vietnamese, Indian, or South American. It was really tasty. It roasted, smelled, tasted, and acted just like I had hoped it would. I debated whether to rate this four or five stars, four because on its own, it's not as 'refined' as other Arabica but I landed on five stars because it delivers exactly what you would expect out of a good Robusta. I will definitely get this again. Nice job.

Roasted a batch of these straight, a medium roast just past first crack, and poured it in a container to ripen for a few days, not sure what I was going to do with it. Mistakenly loaded it up in my grinder's hopper yesterday thinking it was a single origin Arabica I wanted to check out. My wife made coffee with it this morning. Very, very interesting! It is chocolatey and fruity as advertised. Not fruity in an Arabica sense but compared to every other Robusta I've tasted it is definitely fruity. We love it! It makes a decent single origin but I expect it will shine best as part of a blend.

I bought this due to past reviews and the pricing. As a "first timer" I have never roasted coffee, before. I went to the "dark side"/ 2nd crack and it was worth the try, I didn't expect too much from this variety....all in all....it was worth it. I did look for the chocolatey taste...but...maybe my dark roast disguised the flavor. I was very happy with the quick shipping and packaging! I will try again, and maybe with a touch lighter roast, I'll find the chocolate taste!! I bought 3.5 lbs. and I still have plenty left to experiment with!

So this turned out shockingly good. Especially given that Robusta has a reputation for being semi-undrinkable, this was amazing. The beans took more heat to roast than "similar" Arabica. I went to what would have been _at least_ a FC+ on other beans and it was basically just at City level darkness. Using a Behmor 1600, I ran 1lb @ P2 cycle, set to P5 at 4:30 to go, then C with about 30sec to go, then 7.5min at P5. So 24.5min total. Wasn't enough. I ended up re-roasting them to get them to FC/FC+, and it was perfect. Very "scotch-y" flavor, but in a good way. Coffee equivalent of a whiskey (again, in a good way). Definitely would buy again.

Deep, dark, bitter, full flavor, and lots of caffein. This coffee has a lot of strength and a strong flavor. It's a powerful punch in the morning. Sometimes it's a bit much on its own, but I do love to mix this with other flavors for the added caffein strength and deep roast flavor. This is a morning coffee, a wake up coffee, a kick you in the rear coffee. I have to reduce my morning intake to one cup with this or I get the jitters.

For 3.50 a pound, you can't go wrong. I did notice that these beans are a bit inconsistent in their color/quality. They seem to have a thicker skin than the other beans I have roasted in my air roaster. most other beans the skins come off quite easily, but these i have to put some effort into. Overall though, very good tasting coffee and great for the price!

Robusta coffees tend to be a bitter, sour mess, and this one is not. I wouldn't go out of my way to drink this, but given the fact that all of the other robusta coffees I have sampled tasted like Folgers, this coffee is excellent. It would be excellent blended with other beans because it doesn't seem impart a significant flavor, like charred rubber. Overall this coffee is mediocre, and would do best with a dark roast. Five stars due to the fact that it's a drinkable robusta.

Of all the coffee I have given one of my friends this is the only coffee he will touch. Espresso shots 100% Guatamala. Personally, I put just a few grams into my daily espresso. Compared to the Vietnam here this is still far and away smoother.

Robusta beans make up 15-25% of my "morning blend". The Chimalenango beans are less acidic than the average robusta bean, and add a rich chocolate/caramel taste in a blond to medium roast. Also good as a medium to dark roast.

I like this bean for mixing into my espresso roast. I roast in 8oz batches and I vary between 1 and 1-1\2 oz into Ethiopian Yirgacheffe to complete the 8 oz roast. I roast just into second crack. I'm happy with the result and with someone new tasting my espresso, they feel the caffeine in the cup. There are very few quakers and the beans look good before grinding.

I’ve ordered several times, trying a half dozen beans each time, but this is my first review. I actually like this coffee, a lot, especially with cream and maple syrup to mellow it a bit. The speed rush is definitely there too. I roasted it fairly hot and fast, between first and second crack, looks like FC+ almost. Didn’t even wait for the beans to cool (yeah patience not my fôrte). Ground medium fine and put 3 heaping scoops through Aeropress. Really tasty!

We wanted to try a robusta coffee, and weren't too thrilled with this one. It has a flavor that reminds us of pre-ground coffees from the supermarket, that bitter almost muddy taste that we left behind a long time ago when we went to whole bean. It might be ok in a blend and it definitely has a higher caffeine content, but the taste reminds one of a big can of 'sanka' or 'folgers', not something we'd re-order.
