Description

raw green bean Green coffee is raw Roast prior to consumption

Fikiri Charlotte’s life has improved since she started growing coffee––her revenue has allowed her to purchase a goat, build her own house, and buy additional acres to grow more coffee trees. One such coffee she grows is our DR Congo Organic Mapendo––its namesake meaning “love” in Swahili (KiSwahili), the Bantu language that’s spoken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This washed bean is farmed in 16 lots by over 4,000 farmers, with nearly half the farmers being women. Being Fair Trade Organic certified since 2009 has helped the farm cultivate nutrient-rich soil and other resources that allow their coffee to thrive. Despite over 30 years of conflict in the Congo and the subsequent limit on coffee exports, Fikiri’s business rose above and now experiences a new time of peace.

Cupping Notes: Strawberries, red apple, and honey with intense acidity.

This coffee along with all the other Congo coffee this year are unbeatable! Not to mention, coffee purchases from DRC are really helping their economy. This coffee is JUICY—lots of dark berry, very sweet like honey, and not bitter at all when roasting light. This coffee is probably really good to throw into an espresso blend if roasted medium, as it will retain a ton of origin flavor even in a medium roast, and have good body. HOWEVER, new roasters we aware, this beans is very dense and will need to be roasted slower if you are going light, and maybe developed a tad more than normal. Don't worry, it won't taste overdeloped, but it will look closer to a medium roast. CBC PLEASE continue to offer more coffees from the Congo. They are a true organic practiced country for coffee, and they greatly benefit from the trade of coffee. And of course their coffees this year taste absolutely delicious!

Not the flavor profiles I enjoy. It is just okay mixed. Going to try a darker roast and taste. Definitely high acidity.

Fantastic as espresso! Nothing to criticize here. My wife loves it. I love it, we drink it black. Tasting notes: F# major!

I am so glad that you offer samplers! I had tasted this for the first time in your sampler and think it is a fine coffee. I'm so stuck on Kenyan AA, but this is nice change - so much that I had to order some. It roasts well (medium for me) and is flavorful. Worth a try!

This is not bad coffee. I roasted it light-medium. But, it's not good as some other coffees I've had (I typically buy other regions of coffee grown on this continent from CBC) . I'd never had Congo coffee before. It tasted chalky and burnt, but was a lighter roast? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I didn't change any processes w/roasting, curing or brewing. And I've roasted 100s of lbs. of beans. I'm still a noob though!

Amazing . Love this organic mapendo. Ive been a lover of single origin specialty coffees for 35 + years but new to roasting . I did this just to the end os second crack. Chocolate brown oily and beautiful. Very unique aroma and taste. The other descriptions are accurate. The first thing i taste is strawberry. Also did a few minutes darker. Freaking awesome.

This is smooth and clean when roasted at full medium. Has some slight fruit/nutty undertones and could work well in a blend. Need to experiment more but I like that fact that’s it’s organic.
