When I first came across this extension tube I was highly skeptical that it would make a difference. After receiving it I immediately put it into action and was pleasantly surprised. Let me first say that I have been using the same SR500 roaster for about 6 years now and for whatever reason it seemed my roast where inconsistent. I have my eye on a new roaster but my piggy bank isn’t full enough yet (Hottop KN-8828B-2K). So I decided to try this tube to see what it would do. I can roast about twice as much as I did before with much more consistent results. The beans really move through this tube and this has extended the life of my SR500. Inconsistent roast do not work for me. Well worth the money for me! I also want to say Coffee Bean Corral has excellent customer service and really nice and knowledgeable people.

I bought this a few months ago and I'm very glad I did. A few notes: - The roast is more consistent. I used to pick through my beans and remove the under-roasted or scorched ones. There are fewer beans fertilizing the tree. - The crack is louder. This makes it easier to know when the first crack is over and the second crack is starting. - I roast about 115g at a time (about 4 roasts per pound). I've roasted as much as 150g. - Watch the fan speed. An early roast ended with multiple beans in the chaff collector.

This was a gift and he seems happy with it. Being glass I was concerned with shipping but it arrived very well packed and in a timely manner.

I think I overloaded my 3 year old SR500. On my 2nd batch roasting 6.5 oz, I suspect the thermal fuse popped. Oddly enough, it stopped during the cooling phase, so the residual heat must have been considerable. I had been wanting to upgrade to an SR800 for some time, so I took this as an opportune time to do so. The extension tube worked as advertised; just be wary of the temptation to overload.

I've used it once so far. Ran 2 batches. Like the increased volume. The temperature of the roaster is much lower. Even on high heat it tops out at 405 to 410 F at the exhaust vents. Medium struggles to get to 380F. I have roast profiles that I've repeated over the past 15 months. If temps are too low, 2nd crack is not audible on my favorite beans (La Minita, La Magnolia, La Gladiola). I like to use lower temps and build the sugars past 1st crack. This will require some adjustment. Low heat setting is not even useable except for my drying cycle. Yes it would be hard to scorch beans. Roasts take longer with the 7 oz. batches. I will play with it, maybe try 6 oz. and a few other tricks. Still undecided whether it was worthwhile.
