Growing up in a Cajun family, coffee was even more of a religion as well as an art, strong and hot by design, with a splash of milk. The last few years, I've been on a rampage of hand-crafted projects, one of which was coffee roasting by hand. Eventually this turned into a Christmas tradition for gifts. What does this have to do with Kona coffee? While some might not admit the source of inspiration, the in-laws were so impressed with the qualities of this Kona Estate grade bean, that they went to Hawaii to experience it for themselves! They brought back some green Kona Estate beans for me that I found similar to the Kona Estate here on CBC, but they paid more, IN HAWAII!! Long story short, if you're looking for the ultimate cup that is flavorful, smooth, with a light fruit on the palate and so good you can drink it black, this is the bean for you! Highly recommended, as it has become my daily ritual for the last year.

This is absurdly expensive. And it is absolutely worth it. Without a doubt one of the absolute very best coffees I've ever had. It just has such a rich, powerful, and really complex profile. Great with a lot of milk in a big latte or with none at all. I found that if you buy Hawaiian coffee roasted it tends to be overdone. It's hard - in my experience anyway - to find a medium - or medium-light - roast, something like a city/city+. But I can't imagine doing this bean more than that. You'd just lose the richness of the flavors. It doesn't need a dark roast to be a powerful coffee, and that's what makes it so great. You can roast lighter and get all the flavor but still have the substance of a darker roast. This is truly an outstanding coffee. I had super high expectations paying this much, and they were exceeded. Treat yourself. It's that good. It says "prime" and that's a fitting adjective.
