Our Nicaragua SHG is a coffee that comes from the Jinotega region which is the largest coffee region in Nicaragua. It was processed at the Diam Mill in Matagalpa and was sourced from buying stations in Matagalpa, Jinotega and Boaco. It is a Strictly High Grown coffee, meaning that the coffee was grown at high altitudes, which allows the bean to develop slower, resulting in a denser high quality bean.

Cupping Notes: Milk chocolate, sweet aroma, citrus tones, slight fruit notes, well rounded cup.

Just got 10lbs of this bean. It roasts nicely to a strong medium roast up through a solid dark roast (13min roast time with the fan set to max and temp to max for first 6.5 minutes then bring down the fan to just below half power and the heat to a medium high temp for the remaining time will get a late second crack just before the roast ends. The cup for me has been very smooth and slightly chocolate notes with a great finish of nuts.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this coffee, but was very pleasantly surprised. Roasted to around City+ in an SR800, brewed in a Chemex. Initial impressions are sweet and smooth. No overriding flavor sticks out. Maybe a slight nuttiness with just a touch of dark chocolate on the back end. This is not a bold or rich coffee. Very little aftertaste. I'd think this bean would go well with a dessert, the coffee's sweetness enhanceing, not distracting from. Also think it would go well in a blend, adding smoothness and a slight sweetness to another bean. Would have given this a 4* rating, but gave it 5th due to it's great value at $5.50/lb.

I did a medium dark roast just about a minute after second crack. This coffee is delicious! Creamy body, sweet chocolatey notes, nutty. Everything on the description just came to life in one single great cup, and for the price! Oh my goodness!!! You can’t beat it.

This bean is very easy to roast with my SR500. Coffee comes out even and smooth. At just past first crack you can really taste the Milk Chocolate. Definitely my go-to for a medium roast coffee and it is hard to beat the price!

Another great one from the Coffee Bean Corral. Roasted just to second crack. Ground it with some cinnamon sticks then brewed. It was nutty and smooth.

Took it to what I call a City+ roast in a SR800 type roaster (stopped about a minute after end of 1st crack, definitely before any second cracking started). Rich, smooth, nutty flavor even just with drip style coffee. Not detecting much fruitiness especially in comparison to some of the Ethiopian beans but another person that tried the roasts said there was a hint of it there. Did try some darker roasts into stages of 2nd crack but City+ was the best for my taste. Bought again and have got the same results in a number of repeat roasts. Almost never do reviews but this bean at this price deserves it.

I only took my first roast to first crack. It was very mild. I tried different grind settings to see how it would vary. I enjoyed the coffee, but I like a deeper, robust coffee with more flavor. This is a very nice sipping coffee. I am going to try a longer roast on my second batch to see if I can get more flavor tones out of it. This was a great buy on a bean.

A medium body, sweet coffee with chocolate tones. Roasted to the start of the second crack. Not as vibrant as some other Nicaraguans but very good. Although I did have remove a number of bad beans prior to roasting.
