This shade-grown Sumatran coffee is grown under the shade of Papaya and Avocado trees on volcanic soil in a tropical climate. This Northern Sumatra region of the Gayo tribe, is renown for its high quality Arabica coffee. The region is remote and difficult to reach. It is a natural sundried processed bean in which the coffee cherries are dried whole in the sun. This process will take 3-4 weeks normally. After the cherries have been dried to the optimum level then the dried cherry resting process again and it takes until 10 days. After that, dried cherry sent to the Mills to separate the seeds from the rest of the dried fruit or well known as being hulled.

Cupping Notes: Intense aroma, fruity flavor, baking spice, and subtle hints of smoke, heavy body with moderate acidity

Received a 10-lb. bag in July 2020. Since it was a new variety for me, at first I produced light and medium roasts in order to really experience the regional particularities. The flavors struck me as rather subtle and understated, with no bitter after taste. Now let me say a few words about the pharmacological effects. This coffee gave me quite a kick, noticeably boosting my alertness, mental energy and mood. I like to give away free samples to my friends, and I told them all that this was without a doubt pharmaceutical grade coffee. I finally decided to produce a dark Vienna roast which produced a nice bold flavor. I made an outstanding latte. When I get around to marketing this to my customers, I will produce a blend of 50% light roast-50% Vienna roast. I highly recommend this coffee. Well worth the $6.00/lb!
