Description

raw green bean Green coffee is raw Roast prior to consumption

Vietnam is a country of smallholder farms, averaging 1-3 hectares, and famers do not process their own coffee here but instead sell red cherry to wet mills, who process the coffee for export. Vietnam is the world's largest producer of Robusta, which is generally not considered specialty coffee. However, in recent years, there has been a push to experiment with higher-quality Robusta harvests, creating better coffees that can stand on their own in the specialty sphere.

This lot is the result of one of those experiments, and we are exceedingly happy with the outcome. This honey-processed Robusta comes from a select cluster of smallholder farms in the Lam Dong province in the central highlands of Vietnam. The coffee is cultivated between 900 and 1,200 meters above sea level in a microclimate with rich volcanic soil and harvested using only red ripe cherries.

After harvesting, the cherries are floated to remove defects and then pulped, leaving as much mucilage content sticking to the parchment as possible. The coffee is then dried on raised beds in a greenhouse, providing good airflow to promote even drying.

Cupping Notes: A fruit-forward acidity with dark chocolate and caramel flavors anchored by a clean but distinctive Robusta characteristic.

First time customer but was a five-year expat living in HCMC, Vietnam, and grew to love street-side espresso brewed from Robusta beans over there. Now back in the US, I have decided to try roasting at home and brewing with the "phins" I brought back with me. Bought a package of these beans from Coffee Bean Corral and just got started. So far, so good! My roasting (in a skillet) is a work in progress but the coffee tastes quite good and I can feel the hummm from the extra kick Robusta beans provides in caffeine content. My 25 year-old son enjoys it, too!

Vietnam honey processed Robusta is advertised as 900-1200 masl but the bag I received says 400-800 masl so idk what's up with that 🤔 It's nothing special but makes a decent cup I guess. I just like to know I can trust information and know what I'm getting even if it's not that big of a deal..

Thank you for bringing this discrepancy to our attention! The 900-1200 masl notation is correct, I verified that with the product sheet we received with the coffee. I believe the bag has been updated, but I'll make sure going forward.
