Colombia Supremo Narino - Reserva del Patron

Compare this coffee with our other Colombians

The Narino Reserva del Patron is back! This is another outstanding coffee from the folks at La Minita. This Supremo comes from Narino, the southernmost district of Colombia. Bright and fruity, yet very well balanced. It's "cherry-picked" (pardon the pun) from select, high-altitude plantations only. Only 6,000 bags a year are produced (out of a total Narino coffee production of over 150,000 bags). The prep is done to the highest Europrep standards. This is truly a quality coffee.
The Narino is a quintessential Colombian coffee. Excellent body, deep, rich. complex and bright. Fruity (currants and plums) overtones with a nice chocolate bacground, just a hint of earthiness and a long, satisfying finish. Narino coffees, over the years, have been my favorite Colombian origin, and this ranks right up there with the best of them.

My advice: don't stop on 1st crack with this one. Most beans, I'm happy with the flavor anywhere between city roast and Vienna roast (1st and 2nd crack), and often happiest grinding a blend of the two roast levels. But this bean does not work for me on city roast. I'd characterize its flavor there as *sour* (not bitter), otherwise boring. But on Vienna, it comes to life, with wonderful Colombian flavor, smooth and deep.

Great smell, from the roast to grind to the pot. Also forgiving roast. I have roasted from first crack to expresso and the flavor is always interesting. Great after taste and sets well in the pot (up to two hours)
