Description

raw green bean Green coffee is raw Roast prior to consumption

After seeing dozens of fake “Mocha Java” on the market, John created the only blend that guarantees that iconic flavor––our True Mocha Java blend. As a mixture of naturally-processed beans and wet-hulled beans (a method exclusive to Indonesian coffees in which the mucilage and parchment stay on the bean to ferment only overnight ), this is a wonderfully-complex combo––truly the best of both worlds. Despite the hardship in both Yemen and Java, farmers still have a passion for keeping their spot as one of the best origins of coffee, and this Yemen Mocha bean comes from the Pearl of Tehma, owned by Fautoum Muslot. Indonesia boasts a strong government that dominates coffee production, ensuring every bean is up to par. Though far away globally, the farms that grow these beans are small but mighty.

But how was the Mocha Java first created? In the 15th century, when Yemen coffee beans were shipped out across the Red Sea, the Indonesian sailors on board would meet their stop at the island of Java. So, in some instances, the beans would blend, and when people tasted the combination, they were immediately hooked––the first Mocha Java may have been an accident, but it was a happy one we enjoy to this day.

Really surprised these beans have a great flavor ! Been roasting now for about 2 years & my standard has been pretty high I've been trying to match roasts from boutique roasters like 4 Barrel, Blue Bottle, Equator, Acre ect. & those beans are selling for up to18.00 to 24.00 a pound ! I can get close with various blends I've tried but never quite up to what the pros are doing. But with these beans and about a 70/30 blend with some Costs Rica I got the best yet. Also the beans are very very good on there own. I roast for espresso only.

Decided to try this on a whim, I've been stuck in an Ethiopia/PNG rut for a year or so and I was getting POed at not being able to find Yemen anymore. This came up just short of blowing my socks off. Chocolately as all heck and very well balanced. It's one of the few coffees I can drink black and not get a sour beer face. Not sure why everyone is roasting it so dark? It shouldn't have any bitter notes whatsoever or very faint behind the chocolate/earthy/fruity notes. I roast in a convection oven and I turned it down to 475 for this, I pulled it very close to finishing the first crack. I hate City/dark/etc. labeling but it's nestled in medium city. Please try it lighter if you're going to full city, you will be somewhere between pleased and shocked at the difference. IMO Craig has it bang on. BTW the best roasters will do this to several levels and blend. And will not tell you the proportions :D

Heat gun dog bowled this into dark oily submission, The Fonz would say aaaaay! and give it two thumbs up.

Personally this is a pretty good choice. Customers love that it has great caffeine level at medium roasts while still enjoying a quality coffee that isn't dark or acidic tasting.

I usually avoid blends, but this one is super. It's mellow and smooth. I'm not refined enough to describe the coffee with more sophisticated adjectives, but I do know what I like. I roast in an hot-air popcorn popper and the 1st crack of the beans is not as loud or distinct as other beans. BTW, I first heard of this blend many years ago from an old W.C. Fields skit called The Diner.

I roast it to medium-dark, and then let it degas for four days for a smooth rich flavor. I've brewed it hot with my Bialetti, and also made some cold brew. Absolutely delicious! I plan on keeping this blend in my rotation. I also enjoy telling my customers the back story of how 15th Century sailors picked up Java and then stopped off at the Yemeni port of Mocha to pick up Mocha. "True Mocha Java is this particular blend," I say. "It's not just any old bag of coffee." I sell coffee in the re-sealable bags provided by CBC, so opening the bag and letting the aroma of fresh roast fill the air around the customer is a good selling technique.

I have done about a dozen roasts so far. Still trying to find the blend I really like. I came across this website and decided to buy a 1lb bag of all their blends to see if any of them are for me. This particular blend I roasted 30 seconds into 2nd crack and felt that it was on the harsher side of the flavor profile for my taste; however, it was still a decent cup of coffee for the money.

I roasted this low and slow, 220-240, just past first crack. Bean color light brown/dull. The flavor is anything but dull! Rich and bold for a light roast. Creamy, smooth, low acidity with notes of nutty, buttery greatness. I brew with ground cinnamon and finish with sweet creamer, while my husband adds milk to his, this only enhances this great blend.

Many years ago while spending some vacation time I happened upon a kitchen supply store which among other things, sold coffee and tea. I had never known other coffees and teas, only the ones one could find in a grocery store. The kitchen supply store offered small samples of the coffees they carried. Intrigued by the name Mocha/Java, I sampled a cup. I had found my new favorite coffee. It remains so to this day. Mocha/Java has that mouth filling flavor that shouts "Coffee!" I like it any time, with most any food from bacon and eggs, to chocolate cake, depending on how you roast it. Using a darker roast I find a richness in the flavor difficult to describe. If you're feeling adventurous, get a sample, and roast it up. This coffee is great whether you like American roasts, or full city roasts.

I roasted this through first crack then brewed in a Moka Express served with sugar and hot milk. Just like hot chocolate; coffee that is. This coffee will be on my list from now on. Highly recommend.

Whenever I get in a new batch of beans, it takes me a few roasts to figure out the correct temperature and a duration. For this Mocha Java, I heated the roasted to 420 C and cooked for 15 minutes. I ended up with a full city. This is where this blend really shines. Smooth yet bold. This is now one of my favorite blends.

The Yemeni beans roast differently than the Javanese beans. I brewed it in my mokka pot, and added a few drops of honey and a dab of heavy cream. The result was smooth, floral and light. Next time I decide to create a true Mocca Java roast, I will buy Mocca Mattari beans and roast them to first crack. I'll buy Blawan Estate beans and roast them to city. I'll mix the beans after they're roasted. Since I prefer a more full-bodied coffee flavor, I will add the Enrique Reserve from Colombia to the final output.

Great crowd pleaser with pronounced chocolate notes. The beans are teeny tiny and easily pass through chaff collector on a Fresh Roast, so keep heat, fan and bean load on the lower end. A fun roast.

I will ALWAYS have this coffee on hand. It’s so unique hard to put your finger on it. The spice and fruit, meets earthy. I love the backstory in the blend also. It’s a winner at light roast.

I decided to try some of the blends just for a change of pace and this one is amazing. I didn't expect anything special, but wow! Very nuanced. I did my first as a light roast, and I think it's perfect there. Not too acidic, yet a little bit, and yet earthy at the same time. I highly recommend it.

Roasted to a dark full city using a pour-over, it's a smooth cup, not bitter, interesting but not at all amazing. I will probably give it a try again next year. Been roasting coffee since mid 1990's so I might be a little too critical.

My first time trying this blend I roasted it as a medium/dark blend for cold brew or drip. 10g coffee to 100g water is very nice.. my favorite way to use this coffee blend now tho is as espresso. Roast it all the way to 2nd crack and dump it and cool immediately yummy

Don't let my skepticism dissuade you from buying this excellent blend. The problem is I have been disappointed too many times with advertisements in the nomenclature. For example the word "Sweet" in the name when the bean is everything except sweet. It is just marketing and has nothing to do with the quality of the bean. So, when my purchase did not look anything like the picture it threw up a red flag. In fact there were no yellow beans at all. All the beans looked suspiciously like Java beans. I am not sure, but this might make sense considering that Yemen has laws against marketing with areas that are not predominantly Muslim. For example a Yemen can buy from Hara but not Yirga Cheffe Ethiopia. To my surprise however, this blend did have the lemon cupping notes of Mocha beans. So much so that these beans must have grown under lemon trees and a lemon fell in. I like it. So enjoy! And tell the story about the 18th century sailors.

Roasted to Full City on an SR800. Smooth is the first word that comes to mind. Chocolatey, slightly nutty, just a hint of floral on the back end. Soft mouthfeel, not bold. It's amazing how flavors of different coffees are detected in different areas of the mouth. The chocolate/nutty flavors in this one all appeared first in the front of my mouth, top and bottom. The slight floral taste came on after the other flavors had mostly subsided. Very enjoyable blend for sure.

Wow. I roasted this TMJ 1/3 cup Dark roast and 1/3 cup medium. The dark roast past second crack. Oils after bean rested for 24 hours Medium right past first crack. Course grind and 3 scoops to pour over. OMG! Absolutely perfect chocolate after taste with a smooth balance between a dark/ medium roast. I have tried 4 of the CBC blends. All perfect, but the TMJ.....Excellent! My new favorite will be buying the biggest bag of this for an everyday goto.

As I'm very new to roasting, I've discovered this one is very forgiving and its excellent as a mild roast or as a dark roast. Finishing about 1/3 into second crack seems to be my "zone" with this very flavorful blend.

My first two attempts at roasting. I had a start temp of 200c that went up to 240c when I attempted this and was surprised at how dark it is after 1st crack is done. I took the beans out 4 min past and that was about perfect tasting, though it looked too dark when ground. Going to try 3 minutes next time.

To get the most of the Mocha flavor roast to City +. Roasting beyond this level destroys the subtle flavors in the beans. This is an EXCELLENT blend and I highly recommend it.

Tried the sampler to sort through the varieties. No bad in the group but this CBC Blend was hands down the best. Try it, you'll like it. I'm just a beginner at roasting so no advice.

How does everyone roast this?? I roasted it to 395 degrees in a Hottop 8828B-2k and it tasted over cooked. Let this fully finish first crack and dumped it at 384. Looks and tastes much better.

So we mix this with 25% Sumatra Mandeling decaf. This lowers the caffeine a bit. But the blend is incredible and I highly recommend it. I roast at a medium dark roast. The result? A cup of hot cocoa flavored coffee that just can't be beat! If you like chocolate, you HAVE to try this!

I don't have enough superlatives to describe this coffee. I haven't roasted a bad coffee from CBC, but this blend sure does deliver on the chocolate notes. This coffee is an easy excellent go-to. Really, buy more than you think you need.

Having just roasted this recently, my only expectation was the name I have heard and have used for years, but never tried until noe, ‘Mocca Java’. In my ignorance (until now), i supposed Mocca referred to a kind of chocolate 🍫 taste (I think the word is, mocha), and not an origin of a coffee bean. I have often used ‘Java’ to refer to all coffee, ☕️ regardless of origin, i.e. a cup of Java. I did not know this was originally a happy accidental blending of two beans Mocca from Yemen 🇾🇪 and Java from Indonesia. 🇮🇩 Now I do! Very complex and very well balanced! Roasted to about 60 seconds into the second ‘crack’. Pure delight! An excellent blend of perhaps the world’s oldest of blend! Will not disappoint those lovers of full body, full flavored coffee! Will order again and again and...
