Ugandan Coffee

When we think of African coffees, typically Ethiopia and Kenya come to the top of our minds. However, many Ugandan grown coffees rank right up there with the best Kenyan coffees. We carry two such varieties, both of which come from Mount Elgon, on the Eastern border of Uganda. It was once thought to be the largest mountain in Africa.

Coffees grown there are nearly impossible to get to, and are cultivated and harvested by the Bagisu people. There are no real roads, so these green Ugandan coffee beans must be transported by donkeys. But, all the work of producing these beans is rewarded with a great tasting coffee. Our Ugandan coffees boast of rich dark chocolate and Brazil nut flavors making this bean great as a beverage or used as a dry rub for steak or chicken. While the cup is sweet and mild, and fairly light cup, the flavor is surprisingly rich!
