Before I started this journey (raw bean to cup), I considered myself to be a coffee snob. What I have discovered is that there are levels of coffee snobbery. It has been only recently (at 74 years old) that I have discovered the adventure involved in roasting my own beans. My library of coffee related books has increased from zero to ? in a very short time. My half pound inventory of coffee beans of the world has also increased rapidly. (Thank you Coffee Bean Corral!). I have set up a roasting station in my shed too. However, the only thing I was really missing was the convenience of an automatic coffee maker that produced the same quality and taste of coffee that I always seemed to get with my old faithful Chemex. Heating the water to the perfect temperature and being able to pre-soak the grounds were the two elements missing from every auto coffee maker out there.....at a reasonable price. Enter the Behmor Brazen 3.0. I ordered it on a Sunday, received it the following Thursday (yesterday). I set it up last night (including a burr grinder I already had). I brewed 6 cups of Guatemalan coffee, and did something I rarely ever do before bedtime.....yep, I drank all six cups and then went to bed. :). Of course I programmed it for 7am for 8 cups to see how that feature worked, and then this morning. I laid in bed listening to it preheat the water, do the presoak, and then fill the carafe. The coffee tasted better than it has been tasting coming from the Chemex! Just think, you can determine the temp of the water and the presoak time! That is huge!
As an aside: I am a bells and whistles sort of guy. I debated whether to purchase the 3.0 or the upgrade "Connected." I love "Alexa," I own at least 8 such devices in my home. But, to spend another $100 that gives you the added convenience of talking the coffee maker into making coffee is ludicrous. Remember, you still have to grind the coffee and add the water manually! And you can program the 3.0 once to give you coffee in the morning, every morning. At $179, the Brazen 3.0 is a steal, and you won't find it for a lower price anywhere else! I've looked.

This is actually my first Brazen. I've been using a combination of Technivorm and Clever brewers for the past 20 years, mostly, though I do break out an antique vacuum brewer occasionally, just for nostalgia.
I had a few initial difficulties getting the grind coarse enough to prevent overflow, which I think is because of the force of the water pulses, which would in the end be a very good thing, because the only way I really got the best coffee from the Technivorm & Clever brewers was by stirring the grounds occasionally. That's not possible with the Braze, and also fortunately not necessary.
Simply put, before I run out of room, the Brazen Plus 3.0 easily puts out the best coffee I've ever gotten from a drip brewer. Enough said.
(Well, since I haven't run out of room yet, I'll add that the infusion capability is awesome for us home roasters, the temp setting capability is awesome for good coffee, period, and it's a very cool looking machine, even though I don't generally go for futuristic esthetics...)
