Shantawene has won 7th place (from more than 1,400 entries) in the 2020 Cup of Excellence in Ethiopia!
In 2006, brothers Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo founded Daye Bensa, a coffee grower and exporter in Ethiopia. Daye Bensa exports coffee from its farm, in the Shantawene Village, as well as from "out-growers" (or smallholders) in three villages: Shantawene, Karamo and Bombe. It gets its name from the Shantawene Village where it is grown amidst the misty valleys of Ethiopia’s Sidamo growing region.
This is a prime example of naturally processed Ethiopian coffee. In natural processing, the coffee is picked ripe and then left in the cherry during the drying process, translating into incredible fruit flavor in the cup.
Cupping notes: Raspberry jam, plum, tropical, spice. Clean and complex, juicy acidity with a clean finish.
Try before you stock up with a 1/2 pound sample!
Cupping Notes: Blueberry, chocolate, strawberry, floral, clean, consistent, balanced, bright lemony sweetness.

This coffee is in my top 3 favorites! The aroma when ground is a good as the flavor! I roast old school. Cast iron over open flame and digital thermometer. Roast to just shy of a dark roast. Had to be careful due to fast roast. I highly recommend you try these beans! They are over the top in flavor!

I love this bean. Very unique flavor profile. Definitely dark fruit notes, reminds me of the blueberry flavor of Yemen, but with something extra. Maybe blackberries. I roasted about 10 seconds into 2nd crack, which happens fast and distinct. I was worried at first that I may have gone too dark. But no, what a delicious cup of coffee! And to watch the beans exude oils over the next several days, well it was my version of beauty. I highly recommend these beans.

I love Misty Valley but I am very impressed with Shantawene organic natural heirloom coffee. I just reordered 10#. Like others have said, the fermented fruit flavors are wonderful esp the raspberry. I take it 50s into 1C so very near the end. This bean is exceptional in having excellent flavors well into 15 days after roasting without any degradation. I kept wanting to drink it! Get it.

Incredible Blueberry notes! This is one of my favorites of late. I will be getting a large bag next order.

This might me my favorite bean so far. The fermented fruit flavors are so well balanced. My favorite perpetration is light roast for Ibrik coffee and I let the beans rest for a week before they reached the best flavor, though they were still good after 2 days.

I am enjoying this bean very much. It roast evenly and most chaff blows off before the cool down. I can certainly pick up on the fruity, if not, blueberry tones. Highly recommended.

Great robust Ethiopian dry process. Roasts up niece but there are few unripe beans to sort out after, I go almost full city. Give it at least 24hrs rest after roast, very, very tasty. FreshRoast SR500

I went with a dark roast on my First roast of this bean. The spice is very noticeable in it. It is very flavourful. Will buy again if available. Recommended.

Roasted lightly and enjoyed the juicy berry flavors. Pretty classic Ethiopian natural.

We really love the fruity floral nature of this bean in a light to medium roast.

This my country coffee beans. I proud of it

As others have indicated the fruit flavor is prominent and delicious! I think the acidity or brightness elevates the flavor further. Much better than an other Ethiopian I’ve tried. My roast was a little uneven. I roast in a Gene Cafe and I stop my roasting very shortly after first crack as I prefer a light roast.

A very impressive heirloom variety. Naturals can sometimes be tricky to roast but this one was not. I roasted to city on a FreshRoast SR800 stock chamber and the outcome was a beautiful uniform roast that tastes absolutely delicious. It’s tropical and juicy as the cupping notes say. I love the Ethiopia Kembata from CBC and this is complementary to that variety - very clean cup!

Wow this is a really good, unique coffee! I'm surprised there aren't more reviews. This is great roasted medium. If you're looking for a really good coffee with fruit notes, I highly recommend this. One of my favorites!

The raspberry smell and flavor makes this one quirky in a good way. We prefer a medium roast and these beans turn into a smooth cup that tastes good any way it's brewed. The raspberry flavor becomes more pronounced as it cools in the cup and is still very detectable as a latte with milk and a splash of vanilla syrup.

Fruit. So much fruit. You'd swear it was flavored if you didn't know any better! Of the Ethiopian coffee's my wife and I have tried, this is by far our favorite. If you don't care for fruit notes in your coffee, I'd say you're better off looking elsewhere.

Taste as can be by itself or paired with a Brazilian coffee

Favorite coffee roasted medium to dark. Fruity, yet creamy.

These beans are now one of my favs. It literally does taste and smell like Raspberry jam !! I just wish I knew how good it was when it was on sale because I would have bought a 5lb bag instead of 1lb.

Juicy, lively acidity and full of fruit. One of my favorite Ethiopian naturals and a mandatory purchase yearly.

Roasted in a "Westbend Poppery One" an absolute fruit bomb, Cherry's, Berry's, and I think some Dried apricot, Roasted just to the end of 1st crack... Will be buying more of this. I would like to add that the bag had split open enough to spill out maybe a third of my beans during shipping (No fault of CBC) I contacted them and reported the problem. They replaced my order in full at no cost...Absolutely top-notch...Now that's what I call customer service..Thank you CBC.

Winey, almost Black Cherry and Berry Flavors. I roasted for Espresso, and it maintained body and the fruit notes!
