It's not hard to believe that most espresso machines are used more to brew espresso for use in espresso drinks than for shots of pure espresso (at least in this country), yet most espresso blends are concocted towards the goal of pulling a godshot.
Those that know me know I definitely march to a different drummer, so the origin of this espresso blend should not surprise anybody.
After years of (chasing that same goal) and experimenting with different espresso blends, it finally occurred to me that we don't drink espresso shots. We DO, however, really enjoy a nice latte - our evening lattes have become ritual at our house. Sorry all you espresso purists, but I must admit that neither of us really enjoy a shot of pure espresso. I finally realized that every blend I concocted, while decent as an espresso (with a pretty crema just like in the pictures), nothing was exceptional, even decent, for making lattes (or cappuccinos, et al.)!
This epiphany changed my approach, and after a bit of experimentation, the new goal was reached - WOW! We ended up with a rich, sweet, chocolatey shot that really bloomed in a cup of steamed milk. There is very little crema, but crema gets lost in an espresso drink anyway, right?
It was soooo good (no bitter taste here!), too good to keep to ourselves, that I decided to share it with all the rest of you espresso drink aficionados. For those of you who prefer flavored espresso drinks, you will find this blend works equally as well using flavored coffee creamers available at your local supermarket, although it does get VERY sweet.
Try this blend and see if it increases your enjoyment of your favorite espresso drink too. Onobeano's Latte Blend - also good in other espresso drinks.
Try before you stock up with a 1/2 pound sample!

My guess is that there is a LOT of robusta beans in here. If like to find out. It definitely has GREAT crema, and the pull is beautiful. It was roasted to FC+ over 18 min. I'll hold off on giving my opinion on flavor, though first blush says I'm not impressed with its level of chocolate for a blend that speaks of chocolates. Lastly, the bean content was visually curious, with beans that appeared to be substandard.

roasted to FC/FC+. nice blend! tons of body and complexity. well rounded espresso shot, with a balance of chocolate, nuts, and fruits. it really opens up with milk though. wow! turns into a chocolate bomb.

I usually don't write the reviews. But I had to for this blend. I have tried over 25 different coffees. But Colombian coffee has been my go to for my Mocha/Cappuccino in the morning. If you are like me who drinks Mocha/Cappuccino everyday, then this blend is a must. I had enough complexity and depth that still through the milk. I use Behmor 1600+. Took it up to the point when second crack started. Immediately took it out and let it cool down outside.

I am not a coffee connoisseur. Even though I use the model of Hottop roaster that can be connected to a computer and enable one to alter the fan speed, temperature, length of roast, etc., I just use the built-in roast profile. The beans get roasted to the beginning of second crack and are dumped at 402°. They are dark, but not oily. They then get ground in a Mazzer Mini grinder and I pull the shot with an Olympia Cremina bought when it still cost about $350, not its current ridiculous price of $3600. I make two cappuccinos for myself and my wife every morning. I rarely make an espresso. This blend makes a tasty cappuccino. I intend to stay with it.

Wow, this is a great blend. I roast on a stovetop with a whirlypop and it always takes a bit of experimentation to figure out the right heat levels for a new bean. My first roast with this coffee was very underwhelming given the high rating but the reviews were so good I was determined to give it at least one more go. I am so glad that I did, this blend is amazing, and now I'm inspired to experiment more to see what else I can do with this blend. I'm actually using this as pour over coffee as I don't particularly enjoy espresso, it's still outstanding and is delicious (as the latte descriptor suggests) with a little cream mixed in. The results are wonderfully smooth, chocolaty and delicious with just a hit of dark chocolate bitterness hidden in the aftertaste. Amazing. This blend is definitely on my "buy again" list.

This is our go to blend for Lattes in our super automatic Jura machine. Roasted with our Sonofresco roaster. Retail espresso stands can't deliver what this blend gives us. Chocolate and nutty. Please continue to offer this.

I have a Gene Cafe and need help on roasting this blend. I roasted at 482 to full city (19 min) and it was oily and looked like carbon. Any suggestions from other roasters?

I'm a coffee hound. I order beans from all over the world and make my own blends for espresso. I tried the Onobeano Blend and love the taste and texture. It's very well-rounded, smooth, with a wonderful complex bittersweet finish. Thank you Friends at CBC.

THINK MILK CHOCOLATE. Reported as a blend aimed at milk based coffee drinks - this one hit the mark. As a shot, it is sharp and flavorful but added to milk the creamy texture of milk chocolate blooms. Roasted to 260 degrees C (14 min) using a Kaldi Mini over gas flame.

It's one of our favorites. I use a Behmor and do a full city roast. My coffee of the morning is a latte and this blend makes a smooth but full bodied drink. We love it.

I’ve roasted w this twice now and it’s amazing. I’m using a Hottop and use their setting/program that they recommend in the back of the manuel where I drop in the beans after one min of the roaster in cooking mode. This allows the beans to be hit w a higher heat right away. The machine finishes around 20% heat and 100% fan. I let it roast up till about 395 bean degrees. If you do t roast this till about second crack the lighter beans seem to be a little undercooked. I get amazing crema w this variety. I’d love to hear how others are roasting it.

I love this blend and this is 3rd time to purchase.

Pleasantly surprised at its good balance and flavors, and will try again. Thanks

If you like a chocolate flavor for a Latte this is the blend. I have tried to duplicate it by blending other beans, but haven't achieved this great taste. My wife won't buy Lattes from espresso stands anymore. She hasn't found one that compares to this roast in my Sonofressco and brewing in our Jura super automatic. Whatever you do, don't discontinue this blend.

Use a Behmor 1600, roasted on P1+1:30, tasted a bit on the bitter side but could detect the undertones of a chocolate tickle. Plan to do the next roast on P1+1:00 to see if that will give me the sweetness I am looking for. This is my first foray into roasting a blend, have only tried single origin so far. Am excited about the prospect finding the right roast for this blend. Have not found that yet so no Love It till I do.

this is my goto latte blend.. I roast it a little on the light side to achieve the best flavor
by Vikki Perkins on February 7, 2018
Definitely on my rotation list. Good stand alone coffee as well. I needed a coffee that would stand up to almond milk and hot chocolate and this one wins the prize. A favorite for sure!

The Obeano blend is my mainstay. I think I've tried every Chocolaty/Buttery item in the the Matrix, and I always fall back to the Obeano blend. I'm trying a new one this week to see if it is as good, we'll see. Al Flowers Central Virginia Piedmont

Recently I bought 2 pounds to give this blend a try. I make 2 drinks each for my wife and I each morning. Here's what I make: 2 ounces of hot water - pull a 2 ounce shot on top of that in my Mini-Vivaldi. Then I steam about 5 ounces of milk and split it evenly between the 2 drinks. So, it's an Americano or a long black with steamed milk on top. This makes a first class drink. I roasted this blend about 30 seconds into 2nd crack in my RK drum.

This blend rocks! I love it!

This is my first home roasted coffee, and it is Delicious!!! I drink cappuccino, and I could never find a bold enough flavor without introducing bitterness. I roast in a popper for 8 minutes to get a nice French roast and out comes perfection!!! I am from New Orleans and always drank coffee and chicory, but this blend is better without it. It makes Perfect Cappuccino....MMMMM

This is a wonderful blend!!! It is very versatile. I did two different roasts with this: Full City and Vienna At Fully City, this is bright and chocolaty with some fruit - almost like a sweet Guatemalan with a dash of a Brazil plus something else for highlight. At Vienna (and I roasted on the dark side of Vienna) more nuts and chocolate came out while the fruit and brightness receded. The body became much fuller. No bitterness at all!!! I wish all major espresso chains carried this blend!!! You can roast it dark with out it becoming bitter. This is really a two for one blend: you can roast it lighter for a bright fruit laced latté or darker for a more full bodied chocolate nut latté.

Holy cow is this good! I am a total coffee roasting snob and even on my first batch - ever - I made a latte that was ten times better than anything I had done before. Its a fresh, smooth, flavorful latte. Great side benefit... my house now smells like chocolate and fresh roasted coffee!

This blend is exactly as advertised. Sweet and chocolately and yummy. I'm a confessed latte lover and this blend is so sweet, I now use far less milk in my morning latte than I used to with other espresso blends. Your words make me feel proud - mahalo nui loa "anonymous"!!Russ
