I really want to love this bean but it is not quite there yet, so I only like it (actually (I like it a lot) - and will reorder it! The results are very dependent on the roast and it took several to get the base settings just right on a Hottop B KN-8828B-2k+ and my next experiments will be to program the roast itself. What works now, and the result is honestly close to a Jamaican Blue Mountain is to drop the roast near the end of the first crack (see preparation below); this keeps the flavor and does not result in any burnt beans; the resulting coffee has no bitterness, even as it cools! The roast profile is one that dries fairly quickly and reaches first crack faster than expected at about 348°F and I drop between 365°F and 375°F depending on when the crack is nearly done. The programming change I need is to reduce the heating once the dry cycle is complete to gain more control during the crack and extend this part of the roast.
The challenges with this bean are the sizing is not consistent, with some of the smaller beans beginning to burn or char after the first crack and at a medium or darker roast there is a burnt flavor to the bean and off-putting aroma. The most complexity from this bean comes from a light roast that is past a cinnamon but not quite city. When I get this will fully dialed-in I will likely update the review and provide the Artisan programming I use for it.
When I make a cup with this roast, it is fantastic, but it is really quirky for preparation. The Chemex makes a good cup but it is hard to keep the temperature and retention time consistent, so the result is not ideal. What is really good is using an Aeropress, in a way that is a bit unconventional. I grind the coffee to the finest espresso my burr grinder will produce, put about 1.5-2 tablespoons of coffee in, add water at 195°F, stir for 10 seconds, let sit for 10-20 seconds, then plunge the Aeropress. The result is a coffee that is a true Blue Mountain - as good as its Jamaican namesake for a fraction of the price!

I order a pound of Jamaican once a year and hold the beans until Christmas for that very special Christmas espresso. I've been getting it for nearly 40 years in one form or another.
But I will say, comparison-wise, this coffee is actually BETTER!!! This is the best coffee I have ever drunk.
I wish I had ordered 50 POUNDS!
I'm not a coffee expert by any means, have only been roasting my beans for 7 years, do it on my grill with a rotisserie, and can't do all the fancy notes and stuff. I just know what I love. And this is the BEST coffee ever!

This one is really tough to beat. It’s just incredibly balanced on all sides with its light and flowery tones mixed with a rich, nutty overall taste.
I’m definitely ordering this one again. It’s just pure delight.

Punches well above its weight price wise. Every bit as good as Jamaican Blue at a fraction of the price. This is our new favorite every day coffee.

This is our new favorite. We’ve tried dozens of different coffees, and this is the best ever. It’s sweet, not acidic, and even our friends, with no real coffee experience, can tell the difference and ask for it.

Wonderful coffee! Way cheaper than Jamacia Blue too. This way I can practice roasting without the added cost. Gene Cafe roaster: 449 F. 15 minutes COL with lid up. Pretty simple and strait forward for a nice smooth roast.

I have been home roasting for a few years now. Used a popcorn popper at first, but got impatient with the amount of time it took to yield the amount of coffee my wife and I drink. Now I use a Behmor 2000AB and can roast and cool a pound of coffee in less than 3/4 of an hour. The Haiti Blue Organic is, by far, my favorite. It is barely distinguishable from Jamaica Blue Mountain and about 1/3 the cost. In the Behmor, I roast on P2 for 21.5 minutes. I let it cool for about 15 minutes. The result is a City+ roast with a bold, full flavor.

This is a full bodied coffee with accents of chocolate and low acidity. I roasted it in my Gene Cafe and also my Fresh Roast SR800 and got the same results. Brewed as a pourover in a Kalita Wave 155. If you like a full flavored cup this is for you. It would make a great espresso too. Highly recommended. If you prefer a brighter coffee I would steer clear and recommend one of the Dominican Republics from the Ramirez Estate.

When referring to Light or Dark it is (Light = 1 Cracks and Dark = 2 Crack) and we rated it from 1:25 The Light brew was with 8 Cups of Water and 51 Grams of Coffee and Flavor was has to much cloves taste still good with a rate of 21 and Strength of Coffee Strong .
I did enjoy this coffee that is why I gave it a 21 but there are others I did not like as much.

I roasted this very gently and light on an IKAWA Home roaster using a Brazil profile that’s tuned to low density beans. Aged 9 days post roast it makes an excellent espresso with buttery mouthfeel, moderately low acidity and nutty flavor. There aren’t intense flavor notes, but that’s not what I look for in this well-rounded coffee. User reviews tell us it’ll respond well to many roast levels and produce a very mild cup. The key is to roast it gently as a low density bean.

i have tried haitian blue the first 80 per cent of a ten pound bag was sub par due to my own negligence, i roasted with a heating profile good only for hard beans grown at high elevations , my bad. when the bean is roasted properly it is a very rich coffee, full of character, with pleasant sweetness but not overwhelmingly so. it has an pleasant mouth feel to it for my taste, heavier mouth feel than the mild central americans, but not very heavy like some indonesians. it has a good finish not leaving any unsettling after taste, i would say it is priced about right for the coffee tasting experience it gives the coffee drinker that can appreciate a good quality coffee bean after experiencing coffees of lesser character.

Roasted over open flame campfire using a vintage wire mesh screen popcorn popper. Used maple hardwood for flames and coals. Cooked batches consisting of 1/4 - 1/3 cup of beans. Roasted in Fall 2022 in far northeastern Vermont cool temperature (40-50 degrees) so cooling the beans was easy.
Lots of chaff. Have to blow chaff out of popper to keep from igniting it.
During roasting sometimes had odd odor until beans had turned light-medium tan (prior to first crack). After roasting, it took longer to degass and provide good coffee aroma.
Not difficult to roast, but not the easiest to obtain a consisent color at each stage (especially when compared to Kona Peaberry)
After first crack, the beans were dark brown to dark chocolate colored. First cracking took 20 - 25 seconds to complete.
One of my goals was to have the small batches reach the stages as uniformy as possible. This was done with care to attempt uniform repeatability of differing roasts.
Significant degassing period before the fast second cracking. After second crack, the beans can be dark chocolate to light black to dark black colored. All beans were shiney from oil expulsion.
Same roasting conditions for six varieties of beans. They all behave differently. I roasted Kona Peaberry, Kona Extra Fancy, Kona Purple Mtn, Bali Kintamani, Haitian Blue, and Ethiopian Misty Mountain.
Of the 6, this one was ranked 5th is roasting ease and consistency. The listing above is from easiest and most consistent to most variable and difficult. Chaff, consistency of the batch to behave uniformly, and ignition gassing are primary concerns.
If you desire dark and beyond roasts, this one is simple... go beyond second cracking without igniting it, you can easily make lumps of greasy coal beans.

Just found a "lost" partial bag of this from a previous order, tucked away behind my other CBC green beans. Found treasure! I had to roast a batch immediately in my West Bend Poppery to the start of 2nd crack; then press it through my Nanopresso while the beans were still warm because I was a bit too excited to wait. It did not disappoint! Delicious!!
While my wife and I, our family, and friends enjoy the variety of beans I roast, this one is my special treat... a smell/taste experience! Savoring it brings back memories of visiting Jamaica and tasting their wonderful blue mountain coffee, but without the high price tag.
I highly recommend drinking coffee from a cafe cup that allows you to take in the aroma as you sip. The aroma of a great coffee like this is a major component of the experience!
Thanks, CBC for offering this superb bean at a great value.

Organic Haitian Blue is a great way to get an idea of how good Jamaican blue mountain is. Compared to Kenyan Blue mountain, it's less robust but less acidic and rich in flavor. Medium roast is recommended with at least 36 hrs to de-gas before grinding. Try it You won't be disappointed.

Just "Wow". Roasted 1/2# at City+, pulled 30 seconds after 1st crack, the other 1/2# at Full City, pulled immediately after 2nd crack, in an SR800 with extension tube. The 1st thing that you notice is the mouthfeel. Smooth, buttery and full-bodied, similar to Kona or JBM. No specific flavor jumps out, maybe slightly nutty, but nothing overpowering. Really quite subtle. Speaks to the balance this bean possesses. Both roasts had similar attributes, the darker roast was just a tad earthier and roaster. Wouldn't have wanted to go any darker and compromise the flavor in the bean. Just a delightful cup.

Second review:
Second roast went well into Full City + with second crack occurring a good 5-8 seconds, a bit more than the first roast as I wanted a little more body.
Tagged and bagged it and after a day just a bit of oils were seeping out. As the days passed (and I drank more and more) the oils seeped out a bit more. After about 5 days it really matured and I found myself drinking cup after cup after cup I couldn't get enough. Will finish roasting what is left today.
Don't think twice about ordering this.

Great coffee. Took it right up to the 2nd crack and immediately put it into a cooling cycle. I like to keep it open to the air for a couple of days for a solid cure before the grind. It was delicious! Very mellow with a darker, nuttier flavor. Smooth and complex with under tones of dark chocolate. Lowly acidic with a sweet finish, I would cup this in the High 80’s maybe even the low 90’s. It’s a keeper!

I usually roast beyond Full City + and well into second crack however with this bean per reviews I roasted just to Full City +. I think second crack went for 2-3 seconds. I tagged and bagged it and cheated by brewing a cup the next day and it was really good. I believe it will only cure-out even better in the next few days.
Per usual Coffee Bean Corral delivered and I will never buy beans from anyone else. I got a notice of shipment within 15 minutes of the order and it arrived a day earlier than expected all the way to Phoenix.
@Ray Cotter, (and anyone), whenever you end up with a really bad result this is usually the result of a stalled FC. I've had this happen a few times myself due to negligence on my part during the roast.

We roasted our first pound of this the other night, and tried it this morning. We did a medium roast in our Behmor, just past first crack. Our first impression was "Wow, this is really good." Then we tried another sip, and we said, "Wow, this is really good." Creamy, smooth, not acidic and slightly nutty, it's hands down one of the best coffees we have tried. Haitian Blue will go into our regular rotation - it's a keeper.

I ordered several times the Haiti coffee since 2020. Roasted to city for my ice dripping or V60 (three days after roasting) or to full city for expresso (19 days after roasting). Haiti coffee is perhaps the closest one to Jamaica Blue Mountain in terms of balance, brightness and sweetness, but with only a fraction of the cost. Will certainly roast more at as as the supply lasts.

I am a novice roaster. I tried this at medium and medium dark roasts, and it was good but meh, didn't see what all the hype was. Then I tried it at a lighter roast, just after first crack, and now I understand. It was a delicious cup o joe. This one grew on me, and was better after around four days of rest. Mild but distinct flavor profile. I would purchase it again.

I didn't do a good job roasting these beans. I was experimenting with profiles on the Behmor 1600. Rookie move with a good bean. I should leave experiments to inexpensive products. However, the coffee turned out great! Very forgiving thank God! Mellow and smooth. If a novice like me can make this work, you can too!. The beans seemed fresh and clean. Already placed another order. (I'll let you know how the JBM roast goes)

A little more expensive compared to other Caribbean coffees, but this is the same variety that gives us Jamaican Green Mountain and Hawaiian Kona so it is still a bargain.
It still comes out to pennies a cup and this is life, not a dress rehearsal, so drink up!!!
