Description

raw green bean Green coffee is raw Roast prior to consumption

Each coffee parcel differentiates from its neighbors by having its own micro-climate, but the Costa Rica La Minta is not combined with any other farms in a cooperative scenario. Each coffee is milled by itself to maintain integrity, and workers only pick cherries when they have fully ripened. The farm uses acclaimed gardening techniques all by hand.

The La Minita Tarrazu sports beautiful honeysuckle-like blossoms after the initial rain and its birthplace is considered one of the best coffee origins in the world. A Rainforest Certified Alliance coffee, these beans come with the guarantee of a better life for the people and land it comes from––better infrastructure, a more sustainable ecosystem, farming education, and gender equality. Estate owners watch over every process to ensure every bean you roast reaches perfection.

Cupping Notes: Brilliant acidity, a medium body, and sweet flavors of orange citrus, caramelized sugar, and fine chocolate. It is impeccably balanced with a long, satisfying finish.

This was recommended by Mary Hunt of the Everyday Cheapskate fame. When I first got into roasting my own coffee beans, I bought this variety, and it is the *only* bean I now roast. We go thru about 50 lbs a year. I can't stand to even drink any other type of coffee now. The thing I like best about the La Miniata is that it does not leave an aftertaste in your mouth like so many of the commercial brands.

This coffee is just amazing! I like many different coffees but this is like eating prize candy. I roasted it 2 min. after first crack, and let it out gas for two days. I just couldn’t leave it alone you get what you pay for. 5 stars for me !

I took a chance on this coffee by reading the reviews and taking your recommendations. I was blown away. I roast to a full city with a darker bean just starting to shine and, I gotta tell you, this coffee is just delicious. I sometimes think it was cut with hot chocolate, it is sweet, chocolaty, and just a superb coffee. I recommend it to anyone.

I have been buying this for many years after I first bought it from another large green coffee seller online. They were so pompous as to remove it so that they have an ever-changing menu, so I was very lucky to find it here. I want the same good cup each time and this gives it to you. I got tired of buying from SM's as so many were lushly described, but did not live up to their hype. So happy I can just buy the best here, and have been for a few years now. It is a very well-balanced cup, super clean and delicious. You could serve this to ANYONE and they would love it!

Beautiful body, not creamy and not watery, but closer to the former. Balanced acidity and bitterness. I can reciprocate the fruitiness that is advertised, more specifically a somewhat lemon nuance finish. Very clean. In a French press you’ll taste all the flavors advertised. The earthy, the fruitiness, and notes of chocolate. Excellent quality not many “lemons.” I didn’t need to toss to many, if any, beans.

Roasted these to med-dark just before second crack and let them degas for 4 days. A very smooth, chocolaty and caramel sweet finish with only a hint of citrus. Consistent beans, low chaff and easy to roast. I love this coffee and it will be one of my regulars! Thanks Coffee Bean Corral for the useful and accurate description of the attributes for each coffee bean. This is super helpful for a newbie to the roasting world.

I finally got back around to working on finding a good roast profile for this one again. First time was good but not GREAT and I set it aside a while. City+ seems to be the sweet spot where it has near perfect balance. For a small bean it surprisingly needed an extended drying phase like a big Kenya AA. Not a wild-and-crazy-knock-your-socks-off-and-jolt-you-out-of-bed kind of coffee, more like a sip-on-it-slowly-while-reading-a-book kind of coffee because the longer it sits in the cup the sweeter it gets, and to me it is relaxing to drink. Tarrazu is one of my all time favorites but I haven't had a good cup of Tarrazu in decades until now.

I roast at least 50 pounds of this coffee a year. I also roast Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain Peaberry as gifts for family and really good friends but my wife and I prefer the La Minita Tarrazu over these more well known and more expensive varieties. Overall a great coffee, My family members who have been getting the more well known premium coffees and visit us now are requesting the La Minita instead. My order quantity as risen from 10 pounds a time to 25 pounds. Highly recommended!!!!

I home roasted a batch, half City, half Vienna. After seven days, the City roast had a cedar-like, slightly spicy aroma, a nutty chocolate flavor with an overall light body and pronounced acidity. The Vienna roast had an aroma of chocolate and orange citrus, more chocolate and burnt sugar in the flavor with more body and less acidity than the light roast. A 50/50 blend of the two was magic! The aroma had a chocolate/cedar/pipe tobacco thing going on, subtle fruit, big chocolate/caramel flavor with a lingering sweetness through the finish and the perfect balance of body and acidity. The Tarrazu region is really is the Costa Rican “cream of the crop”. The coffee was ground medium fine on a Cuisinart burr grinder and brewed on an Aeropress.

Received a sample pack of La Minita among a few other CBC beans as a gift along with an SR540 to begin home roasting. First time roaster, and these beans have me hooked. I ended up close to a Full City / early second crack and could not be happier with the resulting brew.

I LOVE Costa Rican coffee! This is by far the smoothest I have had. I tend to mix roast levels to bring out the different nuances each roast level provides. This gives me the lighter fruity tones and sweetness along with the full body and nutty tones, then the incredible rich chocolate tones of the darker roasts. My way to descibe it is DELICIOUS! One of my 2 favorite Costa Ricans. Michael

I've been buying this for about 10 months. I tried some of the other Costa Rican beans but this is my favorite! It's smooth, I prefer a bit lighter roast and played with my roasters settings but feel like it's exactly what I like. I also can't say enough positive things about CBC! They are the best. I just started home roasting last December and ordered from someplace else first. Then I found CBC. From the time I order until the coffee arrives at my door is about 3 days. You can't get much better unless you do overnight. I also feel like they have the best bean assortment and provide great tasting notes and other information to allow for selecting beans!

My go to bean is the La Magnolia, Tres Rios, so I thought this bean would be wonderful. Well, yes but... this bean needs to rest a lot, at least 5 days after roast to "off gas" all the ghastly. If you do that, you'll see what all the 5 stars are about. I typically like to pull shots on fresh roasted coffee with about a day of rest. Roasting in a Behmor AB, brewing in a Rocket Espresso.

Costa Rican Tarrazu has been my go-to coffee for years. Got imprinted by La Minita many moons ago. Don't know if my taste buds have improved but La Minita, as good as it is (and it is very, very good), just doesn't seem as outstanding as it was five to ten years ago. When I served it, friends became immediate converts. Still and all, this is a top ten, daily drinker. Tarrazu has a reputation for being 'just too non-descript, too straight forwardly good'. This crop is no exception. Roast easy, let it sit for two to three days and it. is. good. Not great, but very good.

I have come back to Costa Rican coffee after circling the globe (of coffees). I am blending this with Ethiopian to give it a little more acid and more chocolate flavors. Still, Costa Rican is the base coffee in the blend, and the best.

This coffee ☕️ came highly recommended to me by the Coffee Bean Corral as one of their most popular ordered, I now understand why. It is one of Central American coffees I had never tasted before. Now it one we frequently order. My eife and I love variety and roast enough coffee to keep us supplied for at least a week. If I ask my wife which coffee she would like me to brew and this is one of the fresh roasts I have on hand at the time, she will just say, “Costa Rica for me please!” 😀

I first tried this coffee over a decade ago and kept waiting for the place I bought it from to carry it again. They never did. So, shame on me for waiting so long to look elsewhere. The fact that I could still remember the name of it after 10+ years tells you I was impressed. This coffee is of a refined pedigree and is superior to many reknown coffees costing three to five times as much. Smooth with an aftertaste that satisfies and a smooth mellow focused buzz that is non-jittery.

This is my favorite bean to roast in the SR800. It will teach you what the first and second crack are all about. Very distinct changes in color, size, and smell during the roasting process. I have roasted over 50 different beans from all over the world and these are the most consistent. If you are new to the hobby this bean will teach you how to roast!. But even better than the process...is the flavor. My extended family always asks...what is this coffee...and it always seems to be this bean. i normally roast to a medium/dark ( Full City) and 1st crack at 9 minutes and 2nd around 12 minutes in. De-gas for three days or more. i use the Soulhand auto canisters so the beans go in there just after roasting.

Been roasting for friends and family for more than 20 years. We got through a lot! Found the La Minita very early on thankfully. Have spent lots of time and resources looking for better, but it always seems that the Laminita is the best for my roasting rig and taste. Everyone else seems to agree as well.

Took these to FC and really enjoyed the cleanness of the cup. The pour over proved to bring out the brightness of the citric acid (orange-like), and overall sweetness IMO, while the espresso was more balanced with the dark chocolate notes. Also got out the mokapot for one cup and the aroma was surprisingly strong-yet-pleasant. While it may not have blown me away, I did enjoy it very much.

This coffee is well balanced with a citrusy and smooth flavor in a med+ roast. The sweet chocolate finish is very enjoyable. You can't go wrong roasting these beans. The aroma in the bag calls you but wait 3 or 4 days to degas. Great beans even to 2nd crack.

This is a wonderful coffee. I usually wait a day after roasting before grinding and brewing to get the full impact of the beans. This is a very rich and complex coffee, with a great finish. Much better than the "Magnolia" in the La Minita family.

This is my first roast. Got the Nuvo ceramic stovetop roaster thingy. I don't have time for that. I'll be roasting for years. I drink coffee. Not make it half my life. So I got that Whirley Pop thing and it's amazing. Anyhoo...this is a fantastic coffee for noobs. Seriously. It's easy to roast and has fantastic colors as it roasts. Went to first crack, and when you drink it, it's like crack. The caffeine level is no joke. Can't wait to make my next order.

I've ordered this bean before, and was very pleased with it. My day to day is the La Magnolia. La Manita is not quite as robust, and has an excellent flavor. I like darker roasts. I've mixed these beans as 50/50 batches of 2nd crack start, and 2nd crack end plus 2 minutes @ 415 F. This seems to capture more of the flavors than just the ones present past 2nd crack. I like to use these beans for family gatherings, and special occasions. Used an E Gift certificate to stock another 5 lbs. I will always keep these beans in my stock, right next to La Magnolia.

It has been a life long favorite. Balanced in body and flavor I prefer to bring it just up to a City Roast. There are many coffees that are over valued. I have always thought La Minita Tarrazu was under valued. The multiple orders I have received from CBC have been consistent.

Very balanced and smooth. Could drink this at any time of the day. I definitely can taste the lemon hint that others refer to. Tastes very well when prepared with an authentic Costa Rican chorreador, although I'm sure that any pour-over method would extract the flavors nicely as well

This has become my favorite coffee. I’ve roasted many coffee’s, including the Blue Mountain and Kona’s. It’s good with a drip maker or Keurig one shot basket, but great as a pour over. I’m going to try the press, next. I normally roast it just north of medium. It does oil up as a dark roast, but it is not my preference for espresso.

As a fan of the rich, bold, full bodied Indonesian and African coffees, I decided to try this one specifically because it was described as smooth and balanced. I gave it a full roast and found it to be exceptionally smooth and light . It's a great coffee for mornings, for evenings, and for guests and entertaining. No one could dislike it. Its flavorful enough for bold coffee lovers and smooth/light enough for Kona/Jamaican coffee lovers too. A real winner. For me it served as a really nice variation in my morning coffee ritual. Some mornings I wanted BIG and BOLD so I ground my Indo/African roasts, other mornings I wanted SMOOTH and LIGHT and CR LaMinta surely hit the spot. I even found I could enjoy it in the evenings with a desert. I'll definitely order again. Maddie

It is clearly an excellent coffee. I did a roast until at the middle of first crack. Next time I’ll wait until a bit darker. Smooth. Complex. It is definitely not as a negative reviewer has said. It’s different and offers us who are ALL different an excellent option. What a rewarding hobby for the mature hobbyist. It’s fun to nuance about the delicate differences of a delightful beverage. This is an update to my review on Nov. 22. I did roast up to a medium (full city) roast profile and am very happy with the results. Even after resting for only two days the flavors are more pronounced than the light roast, with a pleasing aroma, and combination of nutty and caramel flavor profiles. I am by no means an expert roaster but this coffee seems like it may have great range of roast levels. It has very low chaff and the final result produces extremely attractive beans. Should make a good stocking stuffer for friends.

I've been roasting my own coffee for about 15 years and especially enjoy coffees from Central America. I bought 10 lbs of this coffee with high hopes after reading the tasting notes. So far I'm disappointed. I've tried a medium light roast which I usually prefer and a medium-dark roast. Neither have brought out much flavor that I can sense. At best ordinary at least as far as my senses are concerned.

Very low acidity and no bitterness. Will not consider drinking another coffee now.

3rd time purchasing. This time a 5lb bag. Solid coffee. Roasting on the stove in a popcorn popper in 1lb batches and it roasts uniformly. Using it for both drip and espresso. Fantastic crema and flavor. All around it is my favorite coffee. I always go back to it. Drink it everyday and may purchase a 50lb bag one day!!

I really enjoy this CR LaManita. I was surprised at the chocolatey tones, other beans stated the chocolate flavoring but didn't deliver like this one does. We just upgraded to a behmor 1600+ so I'm excited to see what we can do with this bean in that new machine. Please keep carrying it and we will definitely keep buying. Currently my favorite. Thank you

It roasts up beautifully and not a lot of chaff to dispose of..... pleasant sweet aftertaste. Highly recommend this 👍🏽

We roast this into SC to about 440F . It's actually milder in acidity compared to some other Costa Rican coffees from the Tarrazú region. What it has is a refined sweetness in the cup, balance. It's a very mild coffee. The aromatics are sweet and clean. It's a refined, clean cup. The acidity and sweetness are perfectly in balance with just a touch of dark chocolate. The grading is immaculate.

Very easy to roast. I do a medium roast (first hint of second crack) and the result is a complex blend of earthy flavors with hints of chocolate. One of the smoothest coffees I've ever had.

While very clean, the lighter roast of my sample was a little too bright for my personal tastes. Some comments mention this bean coming to life on darker roast - wish I had another pound to try that.

Behind the Ugandan Bugisu, this is by far, my 2nd favorite bean! I roast past 2nd crack till the beans are dark and oily. It is smooth, sweet, chocolaty, balanced, complex flavors and body that lets your palate know you have enjoyed an exceptional coffee! Many other coffees promise that flavorful experience, but so few can deliver.

Only roasted twice so 5 stars wouldn’t be fair, will update later.

Best Costa Rican coffee out there. Very smooth and light. No bitter aftertaste. Recommended by many other coffee roasters so I had to try it and glad I did. We were in Costa Rica a while back and the coffee there wasn’t very impressive but this is delicious. Give it a try and I’m sure you’ll buy more. I know we surely have. Love it!

My wife and I like this coffee mixed 50/50 with Brazilian and roasted to second crack. This gave us the subtle flavors of the Costa Rican with a little of the punch of the Brazilian. The first time I roasted the CR I did not roast it long enough and was disappointed. 2nd crack is just about perfect.

Home Coffee Roasting can be so rewarding, and fun, even moreso for those who enjoy experimenting. So many choices, so many variables; it makes my heart glad when someone discovers their "perfect" coffee...or blend.

My new favorite and one that I will stick with until they can't get any more. I have roasted it on the dark side - Just before 2nd crack. Great for espresso I have roasted it on the medium side - End of first crack. Great for Aeropress Very smooth and balanced, not too acidic but enough to find that citrusness coming in the aftertaste. Sort of like dark chocolate orange to me, heavy on the dark chocolate. Also a bit nutty too. Taste, not its demeanor. LOL

Have roasted Costa Rica La Minita Tarrazu before from other suppliers, found it here at Coffee Bean Corral. This coffee is very smooth and can be roasted light or dark. Roasted some Scandanavian light (blond) produces low amount of thin chaff. Tea drinkers will like this coffee roasted light at around 11% weight loss after roast. Like the packaging in the cloth drawstring bag.

One of the TOP Tarrazus. The description is accurate, not just a sales pitch.

My very favorite bean for several years. When roasted “right” (I’m Still tinkering with the specs) they provide a rich choco-nutty cup. As a bonus, they’re easy to prep for brewing with a hand grinder!
