I have been home roasting now for some 12 years. I first bought the La Minta due to a review by CBC a couple of years ago. I roast it to a bit past first crack on a Behmor 2000 AB in one pound batches. It is our normal everyday coffee and I rank it very highly. Brew it in a Moccamaster and the two of us drink a pot every morning. I only would rank a Kona extra fancy and a Jamaican Blue Mountain peaberry higher than this coffee, which is much less in cost. I now buy it in 25 pound bags snd typically buy several a year. I continue to experiment with others but always seem to come back to the La Minta.

80 year old, disabled vet with hearing that the Navy's big guns
Viet Nam modified. This is the first coffee I've been able to distinctly hear the first crack, and that's been the key. Control the variables and modify each one as needed. If you can't hear that crack, you can't go past it. Using a Gene set to 460 with the timer at 20 minutes. Not too helpful, time wise, but that rate of heating dries the coffee consistently and brings it to first crack at just under 11 minutes. I let it go until the color is deep cocoa and the frequency of the cracking slows. Cool in a salad colander with a fan blowing on it and you get something worth working at.
One other note. I've tried setting things up for a morning grind and brew; DON'T DO THAT. Different taste that isn't nearly as good. In the time it takes to shave and shower, I can brew the perfect pot after just having done the grind (medium). Now I need to keep the coffee lurkers away from my door,

I've been buying from CBC for years as the service and quality is the best I have found. For a while I started experimenting with other beans and kinda forgot about this Costa Rican bean. I gave it a whirl and then another whirl and bought a 3 pound bag last week. I'm on my 4th batch and this bean produces an excellent cup out of my Breville Barista Express. The bean is very forgiving and cracks nicely. I take this bean about 30 seconds past FC and the results are a consistently smooth drink with excellent flavor. Just what the doctor ordered. Try this bean and you'll thank me later, or don't try it so there is more for me....

I've tried many beans from all over the world on my SR500 and while all are good in my opinion this is the best bang for the buck. This is a very forgiving bean that produces an excellent old-school coffee taste that is consistently good. For a while I was in love with coffee from other regions and went back to this just to be sure and I believe this will be my go-to-bean from here out. Roasted well past first-crack, tagged and bagged for 3 days, then run through my Breville Barista Express I often go to bed early so morning can get here quicker.
CBC provides excellent beans, and excellent service, ... THANKS for being there.!

I bought these beans as a present for a coffee maven. I did not realize they were not roasted. They turned out to be the best present I have given to anyone in years. He and his wife loved the process of roasting and to everyone's delight, the coffee is delicious. I visited and tried it myself and I was amazed by how smooth it is. And all you need is an oven, you do't really need a roaster. I would also like to note they were not quite sure what to do with them so they called this lovely supplier and were taken through the process. Very happy with this purchase! Thank you.

Most excellent and one of our favorites ! Rating at 90% positive as a stand alone coffee. How-some-ever: when blending with Yirgacheffe, Brazil or Columbian: this trifecta blend takes it over the top. Perfect blended balance in all respects.

This is my favorite bean to roast in the SR800. It will teach you what the first and second crack are all about. Very distinct changes in color, size, and smell during the roasting process. I have roasted over 50 different beans from all over the world and these are the most consistent. If you are new to the hobby this bean will teach you how to roast!.
But even better than the process...is the flavor. My extended family always asks...what is this coffee...and it always seems to be this bean. i normally roast to a medium/dark ( Full City) and 1st crack at 9 minutes and 2nd around 12 minutes in. De-gas for three days or more. i use the Soulhand auto canisters so the beans go in there just after roasting.

My new favorite and one that I will stick with until they can't get any more.
I have roasted it on the dark side - Just before 2nd crack. Great for espresso
I have roasted it on the medium side - End of first crack. Great for Aeropress
Very smooth and balanced, not too acidic but enough to find that citrusness coming in the aftertaste.
Sort of like dark chocolate orange to me, heavy on the dark chocolate. Also a bit nutty too.
Taste, not its demeanor. LOL

It is clearly an excellent coffee. I did a roast until at the middle of first crack. Next time I’ll wait until a bit darker. Smooth. Complex. It is definitely not as a negative reviewer has said. It’s different and offers us who are ALL different an excellent option. What a rewarding hobby for the mature hobbyist. It’s fun to nuance about the delicate differences of a delightful beverage. It’s a good coffee.

Have roasted Costa Rica La Minita Tarrazu before from other suppliers, found it here at Coffee Bean Corral. This coffee is very smooth and can be roasted light or dark. Roasted some Scandanavian light (blond) produces low amount of thin chaff. Tea drinkers will like this coffee roasted light at around 11% weight loss after roast. Like the packaging in the cloth drawstring bag.

I've been buying this for about 10 months. I tried some of the other Costa Rican beans but this is my favorite! It's smooth, I prefer a bit lighter roast and played with my roasters settings but feel like it's exactly what I like. I also can't say enough positive things about CBC! They are the best. I just started home roasting last December and ordered from someplace else first. Then I found CBC. From the time I order until the coffee arrives at my door is about 3 days. You can't get much better unless you do overnight. I also feel like they have the best bean assortment and provide great tasting notes and other information to allow for selecting beans!

My go to bean is the La Magnolia, Tres Rios, so I thought this bean would be wonderful. Well, yes but... this bean needs to rest a lot, at least 5 days after roast to "off gas" all the ghastly. If you do that, you'll see what all the 5 stars are about. I typically like to pull shots on fresh roasted coffee with about a day of rest. Roasting in a Behmor AB, brewing in a Rocket Espresso.

I'm new to roasting, and found this to be a very forgiving bean. I bought the sample bag and went with a lighter roast. I personally really like this coffee, and I will be ordering more to keep in my rotation. I'm going to do a medium roast next time. I also found this to be a great bean for blending. Truly delicious coffee. I take it into a few seconds into second crack somewhere just shy of 10 minutes into the roast using a dedicated profile of drying, yellowing and roasting. This bean roasts perfectly. I recently read information on the estates website at https://www.laminita.com/farms-mills/hacienda-la-minita. Neighbors love it too. :)

Took these to FC and really enjoyed the cleanness of the cup. The pour over proved to bring out the brightness of the citric acid (orange-like), and overall sweetness IMO, while the espresso was more balanced with the dark chocolate notes. Also got out the mokapot for one cup and the aroma was surprisingly strong-yet-pleasant. While it may not have blown me away, I did enjoy it very much.

Roasted these to med-dark just before second crack and let them degas for 4 days. A very smooth, chocolaty and caramel sweet finish with only a hint of citrus. Consistent beans, low chaff and easy to roast. I love this coffee and it will be one of my regulars! This is an update to my review on Nov. 22. I did roast up to a medium (full city) roast profile and am very happy with the results. Even after resting for only two days the flavors are more pronounced than the light roast, with a pleasing aroma, and combination of nutty and caramel flavor profiles. I am by no means an expert roaster but this coffee seems like it may have great range of roast levels. It has very low chaff and the final result produces extremely attractive beans. Should make a good stocking stuffer for friends.

I have only roasted one150g batch. At light roast, it has a pleasant balanced taste, but not much body or complexity. I am going shoot for a medium dark roast on the next batch to see if I can coax more body/ and complexity out of the beans.

Anyhoo...this is a fantastic coffee for noobs. Seriously. It's easy to roast and has fantastic colors as it roasts. Went to first crack, and when you drink it, it's like crack. The caffeine level is no joke.

I home roasted a batch, half City, half Vienna. After seven days, the City roast had a cedar-like, slightly spicy aroma, a nutty chocolate flavor with an overall light body and pronounced acidity. The Vienna roast had an aroma of chocolate and orange citrus, more chocolate and burnt sugar in the flavor with more body and less acidity than the light roast. A 50/50 blend of the two was magic! The aroma had a chocolate/cedar/pipe tobacco thing going on, subtle fruit, big chocolate/caramel flavor with a lingering sweetness through the finish and the perfect balance of body and acidity. The Tarrazu region is really is the Costa Rican “cream of the crop”. The coffee was ground medium fine on a Cuisinart burr grinder and brewed on an Aeropress.

I've ordered this bean before, and was very pleased with it. My day to day is the La Magnolia. La Manita is not quite as robust, and has an excellent flavor. I like darker roasts. I've mixed these beans as 50/50 batches of 2nd crack start, and 2nd crack end plus 2 minutes @ 415 F. This seems to capture more of the flavors than just the ones present past 2nd crack. I like to use these beans for family gatherings, and special occasions. Used an E Gift certificate to stock another 5 lbs. I will always keep these beans in my stock, right next to La Magnolia.

I finally got back around to working on finding a good roast profile for this one again. First time was good but not GREAT and I set it aside a while.
City+ seems to be the sweet spot where it has near perfect balance. For a small bean it surprisingly needed an extended drying phase like a big Kenya AA.
Not a wild-and-crazy-knock-your-socks-off-and-jolt-you-out-of-bed kind of coffee, more like a sip-on-it-slowly-while-reading-a-book kind of coffee because the longer it sits in the cup the sweeter it gets, and to me it is relaxing to drink.
Tarrazu is one of my all time favorites but I haven't had a good cup of Tarrazu in decades until now.

I've been roasting my own coffee for about 15 years and especially enjoy coffees from Central America. I bought 10 lbs of this coffee with high hopes after reading the tasting notes. So far I'm disappointed. I've tried a medium light roast which I usually prefer and a medium-dark roast. Neither have brought out much flavor that I can sense. At best ordinary at least as far as my senses are concerned.

Costa Rican Tarrazu has been my go-to coffee for years. Got imprinted by La Minita many moons ago. Don't know if my taste buds have improved but La Minita, as good as it is (and it is very, very good), just doesn't seem as outstanding as it was five to ten years ago. When I served it, friends became immediate converts. Still and all, this is a top ten, daily drinker. Tarrazu has a reputation for being 'just too non-descript, too straight forwardly good'. This crop is no exception. Roast easy, let it sit for two to three days and it. is. good. Not great, but very good.

This has become my favorite coffee. I’ve roasted many coffee’s, including the Blue Mountain and Kona’s. It’s good with a drip maker or Keurig one shot basket, but great as a pour over. I’m going to try the press, next. I normally roast it just north of medium. It does oil up as a dark roast, but it is not my preference for espresso.

I really enjoy this CR LaManita. I was surprised at the chocolatey tones, other beans stated the chocolate flavoring but didn't deliver like this one does. We just upgraded to a behmor 1600+ so I'm excited to see what we can do with this bean in that new machine.
Please keep carrying it and we will definitely keep buying. Currently my favorite. Thank you
