If you want a good Panama boquete coffee at a budget-conscious price, this is the one for you!
A deeper, earthier Panamanian coffee, the Portigal strikes you with a pleasant floral note that almost instantly morphs into a white wine brightness. I couldn't decide if "buttery" should be a characteristic of this coffee or an actual taste! It's that smooth and creamy on the palate. A different and very good Panama coffee.
Grown in the rich, volcanic soil of the Boquete region of Panama, we have a stunningly bright coffee bean, which will represent the entire country well.
Fruity (one of the rare coffees that taste of oranges) and brightly nutty, with a smooth earthy base decorated with cocoa and floral overtones. Its abundance of flavors, both bright and subtle, contribute to the complexity of this specialty coffee, but it's the overall balance with which they are displayed that make it one of my favorites when I want a mild cup of coffee.
Until I can find another outstanding lot of natural processed Catuai, this will remain the coffee our logo character has in his cup. Be it the jungles of Panama or the deserts of Arizona, this is the coffee to drink while watching the sun set on a long, hard work day.
Try before you stock up with a 1/2 pound sample!

A great bean to roast for those who enjoy cream in their coffee.

Update on my previous review about Panama Boquette SHB. Yesterday I roasted and could not wait to try it. This morning (24 hours later), I brewed several pots. Waiting 24 hrs. After roasting? HUGE difference, night and day! Just beginning to hit its peak. Roasted medium. Family breakfast. Everyone loved it. Very smooth. Left a nice ‘feel’ in the mouth after drinking. Flavors more complex, but nicely balance. Will buy again. Still delicious 😋 according to my wife’s review yesterday. Still yummy to me! 👍

I am an impatient roaster I roasted it this morning should be ground in brewed tomorrow morning, but couldn’t wait.My wife took a whiff and even she wanted to try a cup for someone that rarely ever drinks coffee after the morning.Perhaps I will get back with you with more details later especially after tomorrow because tomorrow morning we’re having it again I’ll see what 24 hours will do. But right now today, we even kept it first. And both of us could tell there was the flavor of molasses. My wife said delicious and the only thing I can come up with until another time is, yummy! Not a real professional review is it? 😂

After trying a few different roasts, I’m forced to conclude that my beans were past their prime. The beans reached the vendor 3/19 so my order is probably approaching a year old. They have the baggy, oxidized taste you would expect and I can’t ignore. I feel bad because I’m sure they were better 6 mos ago.

I didn't particular care for this bean. I tried different roast levels and different brew levels. I was never able to get a flavor out of it. It was just like, meh.

I bought a pound and roasted 25% in a dark roast and then the rest in lighter roast. both were fabulous. I enjoyed the lighter roast more.

Most of my clients give me very positive feedback on this stuff. We love and it really is top notch coffee.

Panama Boquette has been my favorite for several years when our local roaster offered it. I used to buy roasted beans from him, but he couldn't always supply me with Panama Boquette. So, my kids got me a roaster and now I roast my own. I like the smooth flavor, and the way it smells right after grinding. I always take a huge whiff before I brew it. I roast it to a medium roast and have found it to be quite satisfying. As far as all the "tones" and all that elite stuff, I couldn't tell you. My palate is not that refined. I just know it's never bitter, never flat, and has a good flavor.

This has become my go-to crowd pleaser coffee.

I cannot vouch for the "nutty" or "buttery" tones of this blend because my coffee palate is not that sophisticated. It is a mild bean, almost like drinking tea, and it was hard as hell to grind. That baffled me. I will not buy it again. I miss Cuban coffee. Too bad El Escorial does not ship to the states.

Just finished my third batch, and I must say that this is a great all-around cup. I roasted one city roast, a dark and then a lighter (almost cinnamon) roast. Each one was a treat. At this price, I'd have to say it's a steal.
