Description

raw green bean Green coffee is raw Roast prior to consumption

This Kenyan coffee comes from the Chepkube Factory in Mt Elgon, Western Kenya, situated at 1580 meters above sea level, on the Kenya-Uganda border. The co-op has approximately 3600 active small-scale farm members who cultivate on less than 1.5 hectare farms that sit on the slopes of Mt Elgon.

Local farmers handpick only fully ripe cherries before delivering them to Chepkube Factory for processing. Upon arrival, cherries undergo careful hand-sorting and weighing to ensure quality standards. The traditional Kenyan washed process includes pulping followed by 24-hour fermentation in tanks, allowing the coffee's characteristic bright acidity to develop.

After fermentation, the parchment coffee is sun-dried on raised beds for 14-21 days, with regular turning to ensure even drying. A final round of meticulous hand-sorting removes any remaining defects before the coffee is prepared for export, ensuring the clean, vibrant cup quality that Nyeri coffees are renowned for.

Cupping Notes: Raspberry, grapefruit, black tea notes; bright but calm acidity, smooth character; vibrant fruitiness with a sweet finish.
